Important Note - The Race Cut off

We are operating the race cut off which was successfully used in 2008/9/10. This will be at the start of the finish circuit, 81miles (14 miles from the finish) at the roundabout on the B1248. This roundabout forms part of the finish circuit and so leading riders will approach from the opposite direction. Riders who have not made it past the cut off within 10 mins of the leaders will be stopped and given a finish position. DO NOT SPRINT! Riders should then head back to the HQ or finish area using the cycle path alongside the road. A judge and Commissaire will be in attendance.

Under no circumstances continue on the race route or rejoin the race.

Please assist in this control - listen carefully at the Chief Commissaires race brief and obey the Commissaires and race officials.

Marshalling.

We have assistance from Five Police Motorcycles and Ten experienced NEG escort bikes. In addition we have had to find 65 foot marshals to cover all the marshal points, some marshals have multiple points to cover and may only stay at each junction for around 10-15 mins, however all junctions on the route will be arrowed but be aware of traffic if you fall behind..

Photo Finish

The camera will be situated on the left hand side of the road for the Road Race on Sunday it is mandatory therefore that riders wear their arm number on their left shoulder-rear.

Frame numbers and back numbers will also be issued to assist with the judging. Numbers must not be folded or obscured.

Please do not ride back down the finish straight the Police were particularly critical of riders turning in the road immediately after finishing and heading back down the finishing straight towards oncoming finishers.

Two sections of the route will be closed to oncoming traffic.

For the remainder of the route a rolling road closure will be in force for the main body of the race only, however riders are still responsible for their own safety and should be prepared for approaching vehicles which may have strayed onto the course.

Feed Zone Will be set up on the circuit, after Huggate.

Parking restrictions will be in force –

Park on the Left hand side of the road only,

Hand ups to be done on the Left hand side of the road only.

Due to an accident during the men’s event in 2006 the feed zone will be marshalled- anyone not obeying these rules will be warned – any further violations the riders number will be taken and reported to the Chief Commissaire after the race.

Race Convoy

Three Draws will take place at the team managers meeting 9.15, in line with Premier Calendar Rules;

Draw 1 for National and UCI registered teams.

Draw 2 for Teams with riders taking part who are in the top 10 of the current Premier Calendar rankings.

Draw 3 for other teams subject to places available at discretion of Chief Commissaire.

Only team support vehicles carrying a team manager with a current valid BC team managers license may be part of the race convoy.

Car numbers must be displayed front and rear.

Convoy to form under direction of vehicle co-ordinator at start line.

Once underway the convoy will be under control of the commissaires and vehicles must not reposition without approval. The race is operating under rolling road closure however the potential still exists for oncoming traffic. Some of the race route is on narrow single track roads.

Under no circumstances should drivers cross double white lines.

Any vehicles associated with riders, which interfere with the race, or convoy will result in those riders being removed from the race.

Warning

After observations last year please be aware of the tight left turn at the tee junction at the foot of Numburnholme hill. Cars were caught out and in the wrong gear causing a stack up with riders having to break hard as they came around the corner.

Race Finish Parking

Convoy Parking will be on the left hand side of the road beyond the finish line – Parking will be under strict control of parking marshals.

Please assist in this operation. Do not just abandon cars where you see fit and do not U turn in the finish straight.

Race Presentation

The presentations for the Premier Calendar RR race will be held immediately after the race on the BC podium vehicle.

Presentation order will be:
Best Under 23 rider,
King of the Hills,
3rd 2nd and 1st overall will be presented by the Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Bouquets for 1st 2nd and 3rd will be presented by the Mayor of Beverley.

Please play your part in making the presentations a success.

(All Prizes will be at the discretion of the judges)

A word on SAFETY.

Riders and officials must attend the pre race briefings.

These races have taken a massive amount of organisational effort.

The future of our events depends as ever on the success of this year’s events, and the success of the events lies mainly in the hands of you, the riders.

You must at all times obey the rules of the road and follow the guidance given in the Highway Code.

You have a responsibility not only for your own safety but also that of other competitors, marshals, race officials and members of the public.

Obey the Commissaires and Police at all times.

Do not cross solid white lines – do not go the wrong way around roundabouts and junctions etc.

We have as far as possible provided a safe environment for you to race in but we cannot guarantee a completely hazard free race.

Do Not Put Yourself or Others at Risk

The prize list on offer is not going to change anyone’s lives, please do not take life changing risks.

We have an excellent safety record. And with the Humberside Police, one of the best working relationships that any event in the UK has with their local Police Force, their co-operation is invaluable.

We have seen yet again this year, the cancellation of high profile events through loss of Police Cooperation.

Help us maintain our relationship with them.

Do not give cause for criticism.

A word on Sponsors:

This budget for the race weekend is £22000.

Income from entry fees is around £4500, which is half of the prize list.

So think about the sponsors please, we couldn’t do this without them.

Promoting and financing an event of this magnitude in a recession is a real challenge.

We have had to work extremely hard to attract many sponsors to keep these events on the calendar. This year, in the current climate it has been particularly difficult, with a number of long time sponsors having to rein in their budgets and pull out.

Please help us in maintaining their involvement by conducting yourselves in a professional manner at all times.
