Big G – Grimpeurs des Wolds Cyclosportive - Saturday 21st July
Welcome to the 2012 Big G – Grimpeurs des Wolds Cyclosportive. The event is part of a weekend of top quality cycling being promoted by Hull Thursday Road Club over the weekend of 20th to 21st July 2012. The event is based in the Historic market town of Beverley and travels northwards onto the beautiful rolling countryside and steep climbs of the Yorkshire Wolds.
The inaugural event was held in 2008 in memory of our very own Big G, Graeme Forrester and was generally very well received by nearly 300 riders who enjoyed the late summer sunshine and occasional heavy shower. We received some excellent feedback from the event that encouraged us to organise other events in 2009, 2010, and 2011 increasing participation to 650 riders whilst maintaining (or improving) the organisation.
Four fully paint-marked routes are available 160 Km, 100 Km, 60 Km and for the first time a 30km event for newcomers. All 4 routes have been chosen to take you through some of the best roads in this relatively undiscovered part of Yorkshire and feature stunning views of the surrounding valleys and vales, On a clear day both the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors are clearly visible from the numerous high points of the route.
Hull Thursday Road Club has been promoting cycle racing for 100 years and have recently organised the National Road Race championship, numerous premier calendar road races and the national circuit race championship in 2008 - 2011 and will be organising an Elite Series Circuit Race again this year. This event has been organised by the same organisational team and so you can be assured of a first class event.
Why not take the opportunity to make a weekend of it and come and watch the spectacular Elite Series Circuit Race on Friday evening on the tight and cobbled circuit around Beverley town centre the evening before.
Plenty of quality accommodation is available nearby.
We have a limit of 650 riders on a first come first served basis. Under 18’s to be accompanied by an adult.
The entry fee for the 60, 100 and 160km events is £25, this includes registration, souvenir, 2 feed stations and after ride hot food and refreshments. Entry fee for Mini G to be £15
Full route details and profiles can be downloaded from the website.
Start Times are available from 7.00 to 9.30 am (maximum group size 20 riders).
We look forward to seeing you all on the 21st July 2012.
